The Global Chinese Economic and Technology (GCET) Summit, formerly known as the World Chinese Economic Summit, was recently held at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, Cambodia.
Hosted by the Royal Government of Cambodia and organised by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, the Summit fore fronted an emphasis on collaboration and innovation as key principals to sustainable growth in the region.
The one-day summit aligned over 300 participants from China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and other ASEAN nations.
The summit, themed “New Partnerships, New Opportunities in a NewEra”, served as a platform for global leaders, policy makers, and entrepreneurs to exchange insight on navigating the ever-evolving global economy while fostering partnerships for mutual growth.
During the ceremony, welcome speeches were delivered by the organising chairman of the GCET Summit and KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific president Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.
Yeoh, who is also the World Digital Chamber president, emphasised the critical role of partnerships and innovation in the global economic landscape.
“By bringing together leaders and thinkers from across the world, we aim to create a platform for meaningful dialogue and actionable strategies that can drive inclusive growth and sustainability,” said Yeoh.
His speech was followed by the China Development Institute president and People’s Bank of China’s former adviser Dr Fan Gang, who highlighted China’s pivotal role in shaping the regional and global economy on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, with Information of the memorable event.
Complementing the visionary theme and approach to the summit in fostering New Partnerships and Opportunities, SSP is aligned to defining a powerful infrastructure in developing strategy, evolving present standings to be even more strategically positioned in the Asia Pacific Region with an emphasis towards the ASEAN block.

The highlight of the night was the presentation of the prestigious Special Business Excellence Awards, honoring individuals and organisations for their significant contributions to Asian economic growth and technological progress.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, in his keynote address, called for greater collaboration among nations to foster sustainable economic growth emphasising Cambodia’s vision towards becoming a hub of regional development.
Additionally, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Economy and Finance Minister, Aun Pornmoniroth, provided valuable insights into Cambodia’s economic and social transformation highlighting the vast investment opportunities within the nation.
The summit also featured three impactful plenary sessions addressing key global issues, focusing on opportunities within the BRI and the RCEP, the role of technology and green strategies in achieving sustainability, and the contributions of overseas Chinese communities to global economic growth.
Gracing the award presentation ceremony H.E. Dr. Sok Siphana, Senior Minister in charge of Multilateral Trade and Economic Affairs and Chair of the Trade Policy Advisory Board of the Royal Government of Cambodia underscored the importance of fostering trust, collaboration, and innovation in addressing global economic challenges.

Through strategic investments, technology transfer, and policy alignment, the China - ASEAN partnership is initiated to establish a robust framework, furthering inclusive growth, while downsising economic disparities, instrumented directly to support ASEAN’s further goals for unprecedented success both globally and at home.
To complement the purposes of the summit SSP coupled to innovative cooperation mechanisms worldwide is presently focused on administrating new impetus into continued prosperity of regional economy in ASEAN.
We, aligned to participants in the summit, acknowledge a committed goal to further expand the field of international cooperation and deeply connect global high-quality resources and advanced technologies to Cambodia in the economic field.
Our aligned interests in the pursuit of common values and goals are primed to BRI and RCEP participants, stimulating multinational involvement, complementing local industries upgrade and transformation.
As announced at the summit, Cambodia as a primed destination for international investors under the background of stable and open policies, is targeted.
Cambodia is looking forward to more potential cooperation projects taking root in its land and SSP pledges to deliver the insight needed to enhance if not reshape the various concepts of corporate relationships that we are presently engaged in, enabling industry enhancement, consolidation and transformation, globally that the China-ASEAN partnership projects.
The 2024 GCET Summit was co-organised by the World Digital Chamber, ASEAN Economic Club (AEC), China ASEAN Business Association (CABA), China Development Institute (CDI), Center for China and Globalization (CCG), China (Sanya) Public Diplomacy Institute, and China Daily, with support from the Cambodia Camchin Commerce Association. In addition to the main forum, a China-ASAEN Roundtable was held the following day to foster deeper regional dialogue and collaboration.
